A Few Tips on Used Digital SLR Cameras

Digital cameras are expensive to repair for a few reasons. If you have ever broken your digital camera, you know that usually you do not bother having it repaired after visiting the local electronic store and finding out how expensive it is. The reason for them being so expensive to repair is because they are built so compactly and with several components inside. This makes it hard to take it apart, and put it back together as the manufacturer did. You will need special machines/equipment, and these can cost a fortune (so it is probably not worth it, unless the camera has some value under it to you).

Digital cameras run into many problems. One of the most common problems is that the lens stops working (the zoom lens to be specific). Your zoom will either not work, or you will receive an error message on your screen. This is a commonly a result of the zoom lens being out of alignment.

Another common problem is that the hinge on the memory card door brakes. This is quite often, almost as often as the zoom lens issue. The battery cover may also be broken or scratched, or a broken LCD. The inside (where the memory card is inserted) can be become damaged if a memory card is forced in the wrong way.

Before jumping to the conclusion that your digital camera is broken, you should do a few things. You should check if the battery on your camera is low, because this will cause a camera to not function properly. Try charging the battery and see if this solves your problem. Secondly, be sure that no one has altered the settings. This is a common mistake. You should be able to reset settings to the factory default. Also, when a memory card is full, the camera may not turn on (this only applies to some digital cameras).

If your camera is really broken, contact the manufacturer. Maybe your camera has some sort of warranty. If not, find out how much repair and shipping will cost. Sometimes companies will repair it for free, but this is not extremely common. It is always good to get warranty when you purchase a camera, because you never know what is going to happen. All in all, if your camera is really broken and you cannot get it fixed for free, you are better off just buying a new camera. Be careful and take care of your digital cameras!
